    Thеn do the following:

    1. Go to Settings, disable "Autostart Adguard"
    2. Close Adguard but continue filtering

One last question will I still get filter updates and program updates with Adguard's system tray icon closed but filtering still active ?

Yes, of course. Everything is done by Adguard Service, UI is optional.

Does that mean AdGuard service does not need .NET and is (much) lighter on ressources?

No, both service and UI need .NET.
