Adguard Causing Lag on Safari Browser

I have been having a problem with Adguard on my iMac. I am not sure when it started, but it's relatively new.

On the Safari browser, whenever I type anything on the internet in any search box on any webpage that has one, Adguard causes huge lag. The lag effects the entire browser. It slows everything down drastically as in typing and scrolling through pages. When I leave the page or disable Adguard this lag disappears.

I am certain that Adguard is causing this problem but I am not sure why.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might be able to resolve this issue?

Hello. That looks like you're having too many filters enabled. What you need to do is disable almost all filters\content blockers, but leave the very basic ones to see if that helps.

I had many filters. I removed some of them. This resolved the problem. Thank you.

Is it a lack of ram on my iMac that causes this problem? Is there a way of running more filters without suffering this issue?

There are some limits around 150k per filter and somewhat number of filters. But, anyway, whenever you enable too many filters, it increases time for CPU to handle those lists efficiently, which affects your speed\work and increase temperature, so as consumes more RAM.

Basically, there are few recommended (starred ones) filters that usually enough to get rid of any ads. Use them and you'll be fine
