DNS only blocks domains (like a HOSTS file does), it can't and doesn't apply cosmetic filtering rules.

Hello,

I just installed AdguardDNS to give it a try to replace my own dnsmasq setup + http/https autogenerated certificates setup.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but each time I try to add a host file I get the following error:
http: panic serving 127.0.0.1:56982: runtime error: index out of range

I have no problem adding filters lists but no way to add hosts files. Maybe it must have a special syntax ?

I tried
blah.ext 127.0.0.1
or
127.0.0.1 blah.ext
or
||bla.ext^


The file needs a checksum at the beginning of the file ?

I reply to myself, I found after many tests that it was simply because of a blank line at the end ..

Ok, now it's running, I added my 2 files ( domains.txt and hostnames.txt )
But, for example:
In my domains.txt there is
doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1

But when I try to resolve, it answers nothing

It is confirmed in the web GUI logs:

What am I missing ?
Even in the explanations of AdguardDNS It says it should redirect to the IP I defined:

example.org 127.0.0.1 - AdGuard DNS will now return 127.0.0.1 address for the example.org domain (but not its subdomains).

I don't use OpenWrt, so I'd be the wrong person for such a tutorial I'm afraid. But if OpenWrt already supports DNSCrypt, just use the AdGuard DNS IPs as the DNS resolver addresses.

I figured it out.

Login to your router that has the OpenWRT firmware installed.

Click System, Software, the letter L, and install "Luci-app-dnscrypt-proxy".

A new tab will appear next to "System" called "Services".

Click on "Services" and choose "DNSCrypt-Proxy".

Click on the "Resolver (LOC/SEC/NOLOG)" dropdown box at the very bottom of the page and inside the dropdown box, scroll all the way up to "adguard-dns-ns1 (Anycast/no/yes)".

Choose that and click "Save".

To verify that DNSCrypt is working, you can (supposedly) type in "nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com" into the Terminal and look for "127.0.0.53".
