Adguard with mail client (i.e. Outlook)

I've installed the Outlook app on my phone and had trouble setting up my mail (IMAP). After some random turning off and on actions I was able to setup the client. But then I noticed I wasn't able to send of receive mails. I've alsof tried a different mail client and was unable to setup my mail. I therefore removed the app and turned to testing with the Outlook app (my primary choice for a mail client).

I've done the following test scenario's:
  1. Turn off WiFi and leave Adguard running.
    1. Result: Able to send and receive mails
  2. Turn on WiFi and turn off Adguard.
    1. Result: Able to send and receive mails
  3. Turn of WiFi and turn on Adguard.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  4. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  5. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  6. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and turn off "DNS Filtering" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  7. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and turn off "DNS Filtering" and turn off "Stealth Mode" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  8. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and turn off "DNS Filtering" and turn off "Stealth Mode" and turn off "Phishing malware protection" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  9. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and turn off "DNS Filtering" and turn off "Stealth Mode" and turn off "Phishing malware protection" and turn off "Extensions" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  10. Turn off option "High quality filtering method" and turn off "Block ads in all apps" and turn off "DNS Filtering" and turn off "Stealth Mode" and turn off "Phishing malware protection" and turn off "Extensions" and turn off "HTTPS Filtering" and WiFi on.
    1. Result: Not able to send and receive mails.
  11. Install BlueMail and turn all options in Adguard back on.
    1. Result: Able to send and receive mails.
All other options, not mentioned above, are turned off. Not unless I disable Adguad itself (i.e. "Protection is disabled") am I able to send and receive mails. I therefore coming to the conclusion the problem is Adguard itself. To be thorough I even installed Blokada (another adblocker app) which worked perfectly.

In the log of Adguard I can't see a record for SMTP on port 587 or 993 (don't know which one Outlook used) when I send myself a test mail, only for IMAP on port 443 (which has the status "Succeeded"). It therefore looks like al SMTP traffic is blocked somehow for Outlook even though I can't see any evidence in the log.

So in short. I'm unable to send or receive mails (even though port 443 seems the be fine in the log) when Adguard is enabled and all the filtering is turned off. Only when I disable Adguard or my Wifi can I send and receive mails with Outlook.

Do you see any notification it got blocked on Mobile? Is Mobile Data enabled for the app in AdGuard?

No, I don't see its blocked. Mails just keep sitting in the Out-box until I switch of WiFi or Adguard. And yes, mobile data is enabled.

I've finally solved the issue. By disabling "pref.vpn.disable.pause" I got outlook (and Reddit for some reason) working like a charm again.

Settings > Advanced > Low level settings > pref.vpn.disable.pause: disable

Just registered to say thanks for this, solved the problem on my phone, which was having issues sending email via IMAP/SMTP.
