Hi,

I'm located in Japan and use Spotify app on Mac.
Banner ads are blocked, but I still hear audio ads in Japanese. Can I remove audio ads too?

I have enabled following filters.
*English Filter
*Spyware Filter
*Social Media Filter
*Annoyances Filter
*Japanese Filter

Another solution it is to pay for the service. This is what I do to help the artists and reward their work.
Would you work for free?
This is not really a place to discuss this matter. This topic is about Spotify ads and ways to remove them.

I agree with @Bruno about it. If service provides an option to pay and disable ads, this is a preferred way.

However, it won't disable tracking in the app, so using an ad blocker still makes sense.

True it could make sense.
However this type of service like Apple Music, Deezer... is to track what your are listening in order to provide you the best recommendation of music you would enjoy. The advertising there, is not for a profitability goal but to provide a free service.
So yes I want to be tracked because I paid for it

It would be like using a navigation app where you do not want to be tracked but still want the traffic information. A bit complicated, isn't it?

I think we should make a difference between intrusive tracking for advertising and then client/prospect profitability ; and tracking customer habits to provide better services for something you are paying for.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah, this is the primary purpose of the app.

But what I mean is all kinds of third-party tracking. Almost all the apps out there use third-party services to track all your actions inside of an app (crashlytics, flurry, etc, there are tons of them). These services do know who you are and can combine information got from multiple apps and able to combine it. That's quite scary how much they know about you.

Also, it bothers me very much when an app like LastPass or your banking app use a third-party tracking service. You see, these services work from "inside" of the app, have the same access rights, and may, in theory, do literally anything with the app's data.

You know, being tracked on Amazon does not upset me because I like to get relevant recommendations on products I might like. Somehow they make my life easier.

Please reassure me, did you also find some third party tracking app within 1Password?

Regarding the banks, I do not know what tracking app they use, but in France if they do it, it is for themselves or for security reasons because they are not allowed to sell customers information. Banking regulation is very strict here.

Regarding an old message you sent me about VPN, which was very instructive indeed, I chose NordVPN and OpenDNS as extra security layers.

But let's be honest I am just a "normal" guy ;-)

Yep, I see no third-party URLs in the filtering log. That's one of the reasons why I prefer it over their competitors. Besides that, passwords are very sensitive data and 1Password allows me to have full control over it, store it where I like and not in some cloud.

Same goes for Russia, but still, I see a hell of a lot of third-party tracking inside of my banking app.

Damn, we should write an article about it.

By the way is it possible that Adguard is messing with Spotify iOS application?
I am facing on a random basis some erratic behavior from the app. For instance the Spotify Connect link sometimes disappears.

@Bruno can you please create a separate thread about the Spotify problem in the Adguard for iOS subforum and provide the necessary details?

You can block the Spotify Ads by connecting to a Proxy Server. Elite Proxy Switcher makes sense. It is a free tool used in blocking Spotify ads without subscribing to their Premium version. But in order to listen to Spotify music without any ads forever, another way to make it is to find a Spotify Music Converter on Google and download it to your own device. Use it to convert your Spotify songs and keep them in your local folder. Finally, it is free to listen to them offline. No ads disturbed. I have use a converter from DumpMedia.
