I am actually surprised that I have not seen this implemented in AdGuard as of yet. We talk about annoying ads, but now sits like CNN, CNet and others autoplay content, and on a lot of sites it is irrelevant content.

I'd like to request the ability in the application to disable the autoplay of videos on most sites, with the option to whitelist sites, such as YouTube, etc.

Thank you!

Web browsers usually have features now to block the autoplay of videos. I know at least Firefox does.

AFAIK, Chrome does not. Though, Chrome does have the ability to block ads, set do not track, etc. The actual usefulness of the built-in features for such things are limited to laughable. Should I abandon AdGuard and rely on the browser? (Obvious answer - no.) Perhaps you are thinking of flash player? HTML5 is another beast. There apparently used to be a flag in Chrome for blocking autoplay in the settings, but, of course, as usual, today's software updates don't add features and functionality, but rather, remove useful features we begin to rely on.

Let's not leave it in the web browser's hands. AdGuard is all about blocking annoyances, and although some HTML5 videos are not considered 'ads' or are not being blocked actively, there should still be a feature for this. I found people asking for help to block HTML5 videos on this forum back in 2017. AdGuard should seriously think about adding the functionality to its features. Why in the world would anyone want to pay for AdGuard to block ads and then have to find a workaround or feature themselves somewhere else for a non-complete solution?

Don't let me down here. I tell everyone I know about AdGuard. I've bought 12 lifetime licenses. Don't make me start regretting those decisions with solutions such as "check your browser functionality".

And no offense to you Boo Berry with my last post, I've seen your posts before, and I know you are a helpful, supportive individual here. I am just overly frustrated with those stupid auto-plays, and I haven't found a good solution or extension that fixes it. I'm at the end of my rope here and I figure AdGuard would be interested in taking advantage of the functionality hole that exists.

It's related to ad blocking and it will bring in more people searching for the same solution, seems like a win-win no brainer to me to implement it.

I use Firefox and downloaded an add on to it called Disable HTML5 Autoplay. It works great. I don't use Chrome but maybe they make the same add on for Chrome. I hate auto play videos too.

Yes, it's available for Chrome too (along with a few others).

In my opinion, it's up to the browser to prevent autoplay of videos. I'm honestly surprised Google hasn't added it to Chrome yet. Even the Chromium-based version of Edge has a autoplay disable feature!

Indeed. It's tiresome to constantly block them for individual sites.
