Early Access: AdGuard 6.0 Alpha Version

Hi everyone!

Dear friends, it seems that the time has come to finally show you Adguard 6 (an alpha version yet). Its development took a long time. We have rewritten most of the code almost from scratch, fixed many problems and bugs, which trailed from older Adguard versions. In order to continue the work we now need your feedback.

Important: this is an alpha version, it is not intended for general use.
If you are not ready for bugs, errors and crashes of the program, better wait for the public beta.

What's new in this version:
1. A brand new program design.
2. New Filter editor - more convenient and easier to understand than the old one.
3. New Filtering log - more user-friendly.
4. Many "internal changes", we have rewritten the filtering engine itself.

What is not yet ready?
1. Stealth Mode is not working in this Alpha.
2. We are using the old versions of network drivers (the same as in the current Adguard release version).
3. We haven't completed the work on "Filtered apps". Soon it will be possible to add "Modern" applications and extend the list of filtered apps.
4. We haven't completed the work on "Filter editor". Soon it will be possible to create rules in the visual editor.
5. The older version of "Adguard Assistant" is being used.
6. We haven't completed the work on "Filtering log". In future it will be possible to create rules right from the Log.
7. At the moment there are only two localizations - English and Russian.
8. The settings migration from fifth version is not ready.

Important: During installation Adguard 6 will remove all current settings of the version 5.

Known issues
1. Memory leaks. Not all the memory can be freed up after intensive use of UI.
2. Unstable run of Filter editor. Filters can get out of sync.
3. Hangs and crashes sometimes happen.

Ok my idea to do a over the top install over v5 wasn't that great as it turned out
It installed fine but immediately crashed upon launching the GUI....now doing a clean install.

Huh, could you also get crash data from windows log?

Could be useful, normally it shouldn't crash.

I've tried to install on the top of latest v5 and it worked fine.

Loading available filters subscriptions takes a bit long for me.

It was Windows 10 build 10166 so maybe thats the cause, dont worry too much.....

Did a full clean install by uninstalling v5 (and all folders in various locations) and installed v6. Seems to be working fine.

I did not find the way to manually check for application update. I guess it's done on 'About' page. Would be nice to see it when we click RMB on tray icon.

Font seems to be blurry for me. I use 1920x1200 and DPI 150%

Ok here's my first impression on W10 build 10166 with MS EDGE :

On the whole it's good, the GUI took me only 2 mins to get acquainted so it shudn't draw negative response. Infact I like the new GUI :thumbsup:

While installing we r provided an option, whether to create a desktop shortcut or no, i chose to create a shortcut but after finishing up the installation it didnt create one.

I see while selecting filters in the filters list u have enabled the select all features using CTRL+A, but atm this does nothing in the sense, that if u right click after selecting them all only the one u r focussed on gets selected ultimately, same is the case if after selecting all the filters u use the checkboxes to configure.

In the filtered apps section, there used to be a 'restore default' option in v5, i wud like it to return pls.

upon right clicking the tray icon we used to have an option named 'Close adguard but continue filtering' in v5, that is most useful for me personally. It wud be grt if it cud be accomodated too. because at the present adguard requires to be running all the time in the tray.

Upon system restart, i noticed that although adguard service was running but u had to run the GUI(if start with win startup is disabled) to filter ads. This cud be related to what I just said above.

One more thing, after system restart, upon opening the GUI i noticed that the protection got disabled on its own and had to be enabled manually.

The tray icon with the double tickmark cud see some modification, in the sense that u cud continue with one tick mark within the crest and the crest turns green or red based on whether protection is enabled or disabled. Or u cud borrow the 'a' from v5 within white crest and with green or red tick mark.

Pls do keep in mind what I wrote in the very first line.
Looking forward to this great product.

Sometimes if you disable all filters from your user filters list and click on 'Enable all' then only first <random number> rules become enabled. Clicking it again may enable all rules or only next few. Is it this the 'filters out of sync bug'?

Please add an option to maximize Adguard windows.

"selecting filter subscription from .txt file from http/ftp server and use it in Adguard directly" does not seem to be possible for now, maybe in first beta?

Also what about saving Adguard window position. Is it saved and restored when you reboot?

for me Edge on its own passes the test but with adguard it fails the test.

It shows the page in Chrome Stable, but not in Chrome Canary, Firefox, Nightly and Edge (as intended). I might have to try a clean Chrome profile.

Nevermind, it's blocked in Chrome too. Perhaps you need to visit the page first, then try again and it should be blocked.

- The main Adguard window shows on boot - it isn't started silently in the system tray.

- Filtered apps seem to be missing icons for some browsers, like Microsoft Edge. But I suspect this is as intended as the album isn't finished (yet?).

and what happens if u disable protection, clear 'all' the SSl folder and then enable protection and then manually add the certificate to FF. and visit the site?

Probably because the site needs to load first before the domain can be added to the database files.

Perhaps by default Adguard should include domains like this so they're blocked right off the bat?

when i do the process i just asked u to do, I see that site again and again and again(even after clearing FF browsing data)...not just the first time, that's why I asked u.
Blocking the site won't help, its serving a purpose.....to prevent us from dangerous sites.

Sadly can't find the option in tray menu to update the filters like in V5.

Yes, Adguard window shows up on the top at reboot.

I used to browse in private mode all the time. By default when you open FF it restore session but loads only one tab - next are loaded when user switched to them. I used CTRL + tab to went through all tabs at once (~28 tabs). Some of them needed a little bit more time to load, also my PC is crappy. Then Adguard service has stopped working.
