Adguard seems to break some apps that use the internet when it is running. Is there a way to whitelist an app so it doesn't use the vpn? I only need it to block ads.

For example airdroid - an app to access a smartphone on a computer to text and do various functions - can't stay connected to my computer when adguard is active. If I could whitelist the app, all would be well.

It's not possible yet, but they're working on app whitelisting.

The problem here is not in app filtering.

It is how VPN in Android works - it breaks all incoming connections.

I just got an Amazon Fire TV Stick, and found that the Fire TV app cannot connect when Adguard is active. So I take it there's no way around it at this time, aside from disconnecting Adguard when I want to use the Fire TV app?

Yes, for now. But I don't think that it's the same problem as with airdroid.

We'll whitelist Fire TV app in the next version and it should fix the issue.

Also could you please send us a message from the app?
We'd like to check Adguard logfile.

    1. Switch logging level to "Record everything" (in advanced settings)
    2. Run Fire TV app and reproduce the issue
    3. Switch logging level back to default
    4. Send us a message from Adguard app

    Done.

A couple things. I noticed I don't have app filtering enabled, since I don't have Premium.

Also, I'm able to connect with the Fire TV app if I'm using HTTP Proxy instead of VPN filtering.

    Thanks.

    Thank you!

I've checked the log file and there're bad news here.
Looks like VPN is incompatible with this app.

There is a known issue with Android VPN: while using it your device cannot accept incoming connections.
And this FireTV app works as a server and tries to do it.

HTTP proxy mode does not have this restriction.

Are there drawbacks to using the HTTP Proxy instead? I don't use the Fire TV app that much (at this time), so if VPN is that much better, I might just disconnect it when I need to use the Fire TV app.

    Thanks!

If you have ROOT access then HTTP proxy is a good choice.
If not than you'll have to manually set proxy settings for each Wi-Fi connection you use. Also it cannot filter 3G/4G in this mode.

    Hi @Tarkus!

We've just released new beta version (1.1.818) in which we've excluded local network from VPN filtering.
This should fix the issue with Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Latest beta is available here: https://adguard.com/apkb

Sorry, but with this version I still cannot connect with my Fire TV Stick when using VPN filtering. Connects fine with it off or with HTTP Proxy, same as before.

We've just updated beta to version 1.1.830. Now I am sure local network is excluded so I hope the issue with Amazon Fire TV Stick should be fixed.

    Could you please check it?
