Just trying to understand VPN type feature

So it seems to my limited knowledge there are 2 types of Ad Blocks.. well major ones that I'm familiar with..

Hosts based.. yeah I get that.. no worries :)

But then people talk about VPNs.. maybe local VPNs ?

I'm just wondering.. don't VPNs route traffic & change my IP to sites I visit..

If I'm correct about the "Local" VPN terminology as it pertains to ad blocking..

Does it not touch my IP ?

But still intercepts all my traffic right ?

I know this is not a malicious service.. I trust that..

I guess what I'm wondering is are there services that could use the Local VPN to do malicious things ?

And with a Local VPN for ad blocking.. will it ever touch my IP ? I don't want some of the sites I use to be nagging me about logging in from different IPs / locations.

I do kinda understand the simplest of explanations for how an actual VPN works.. captures & routes all traffic & that does alter my IP as sites & services perceive it.

It is not altering the public/private IP address. Every traffic is routed through AdGuard's local VPN to block ads.

So a local vpn still captures all my traffic for its filtering purposes right ?

If I were to use a .. I'll call it malicious adblocker could a party view that captured traffic ?

Or would that require some sort of remote access like a rat/trojan for example ?

Actually, VPN very useful thing, ya know. Especially, when you try to connect to favourite website and it blocked or want to secure. I paid for NordVPN. Like it. Thanks to VPN you will be protected from interception of logins / passwords in unprotected or public WI-FI points, the history of your visiting sites will not be accessible to anyone, and you will forget the blocking of sites as a terrible dream. Website topvpnchoice.com helped me to choose VPN service.

Yes, that's the whole purpose: In user mode there's no other way to intercept (other) apps traffic.

Sure, that's the/your risk. See Menu | Settings | Advanced | Low Level Settings | pref.vpn.capture
Or would that require some sort of remote access like a rat/trojan for example ?
not at all, they could hide their traffic within yours.

P.S. @Alex White is completely OT, also be advised that you cannot run 2 VPNs at the same time. It's AG filtering or any (other) VPN.

Not sure what you mean by "ADBLOCKER™" but you can use it alongside AdGuard if you use AdGuard in HTTP proxy mode. You can't have two VPNs at the same time.
