PSA: Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek filter/userscript shouldn't be used anymore!

The Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek userscript and filter has ceased development. In fact, both the userscript and filter haven't received an update since November 2016. Because of that, it's advised that AdGuard users not use this userscript and filter anymore and should remove them immediately. There's a chance running the AAK userscript/filter could cause issues with websites due to being outdated. Here's AAK's commit history with the last commit being in November 2016;

https://github.com/reek/anti-adblock-killer/commits/master

NOTE: AdGuard products serve Anti-Adblock Killer updates from its own servers (and not mainstream AAK servers) so the AAK filter in AdGuard products will appear to be "updated" with a recent updated date - this is done so AG filter developers can modify the issues to address issues, etc. But remember regardless of the updated date shown this is not really the case, as AAK itself hasn't been updated since late 2016, so you're not really getting filter updates (and haven't for some time now).

Time for a mini Q&A!

Q) So, with Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek development ceased, what can AdGuard users do now against Anti-Adblock scripts and messages?

A) Sites running Anti-Adblock scripts/messages/images/etc. are handled in the main AdGuard filters (e.g. the English filter, Annoyances filter, etc.). Just use those filters if you're not using them already!

Q) Okay, I enabled those filters and I'm still seeing Anti-Adblock messages and images, what can I do about these?

A) You can report any sites using Anti-Adblock scripts/messages/images via the new AdGuard reporting tool found here: http://agrd.io/report

Eventually the Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek filter will be tagged as obsolete (along with other "dead" filters like Prebake).

I read this post today and this particular filter is still getting updates. Latest update is today as on 1 Aug 2018.

So what's the confusion here?

You mean AdGuard is reporting updates to the filter, correct? Well, it's actually not receiving updates. What's happening is AG serves filter updates from their own servers, instead of using upstream's server (in this case it would be the AAK GitHub page). Filters are updated server-side every so often (like every day or so). In the case of AAK, it hasn't been updated since November 2016 but AG 'updates' that filter every couple days. So while the date updated field(s) may increase, there's simply been no updates to the filter itself.

Don't use this filter anymore, it can and will cause issues with sites. I've already seen a report where using this dead filter causes issues with websites. Enable the Annoyances filter, and if you encounter sites with anti-adblock warnings, messages, etc. use the reporting tool to report these sites so the filter devs can address it.

Thanks, still I agree with the users above, that there has to be an update to at lease remove that filter, which shouldn't be too difficult or a major update needed for this. I had an issue that I posted about and I suspect that I was using this list could be the reason. I wouldn't otherwhise know of this issue.

The filter (along with some others) has been marked as obsolete in the subscription list.

Yeah, I believe that list is hardcoded. It should eventually sync with the available subscriptions list.

Many thanks, Boo, I came to query this very issue because I had forgotten to disable it on one of my Fire tablets and wondered why it was "updated" since I saw your first post on the subject several months ago, haha, so disabled it is.

Hoping everyone in Team AdGuard has a fantastic morning and an even better afternoon! ✌

It's not getting updates. Read the first post carefully...
