Newbie question time:

1) Can you explain exactly what 'Activate the most appropriate filters automatically' does?
2) Is having the 'Spyware and tracking filter' turned on likely to slow down or even break some sites?

Thanks

Activate the most appropriate filters automatically :- it automatically activates the language specific filters appropriately according to websites you visit (for ex if you visit a russian website the Russian filter will be activated so as to filter that page :) )
Spyware and tracking filter :- hasn't experienced slowdown myself also by chance if you see a broken page it will be fixed if you report it here :)
Hope this helps :)

Thanks Rian. OK, I'll persist with the spyware / tracking filters. I seemed to be having an issue with this site (slow initial loading):

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/

Incidentally, how does one get involved in Beta testing for Adguard? I'm a 'Gold Beta Tester' for Kaspersky and get involved with many other products. Be good to do the same here.

Rian is right, just automatically enables language specific filters.

Any filter could break some websites. If you ever encounter such "broken" site, report it here http://forum.adguard.com/forumdisplay.php?54-False-Positives

What for slow down, it is unlikely. Maybe in some rare cases when the website rendering depends on loading some scripts

We have following beta-tester's programs:
1. Closed beta-test of Adguard for Windows: http://forum.adguard.com/showthread.php?505-Adguard-5-beta-testing
2. Open beta-test of Adguard extensions.

Firefox: http://forum.adguard.com/showthread.php?1662-Adguard-for-Firefox-open-beta-test
Chrome/Opera: http://forum.adguard.com/showthread.php?1353-Adguard-for-Chrome-1-0-1-3-open-beta-test

Beta-versions use their own update channel so if you install it you'll always get the latest beta.

Seems I have a slow down with this site then (as above): http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/

On first load it's very slow but thereafter it's OK - even after clearing the cache. So, not broken as such. As far as I can see from 'Inspect Element' (the Chrome right click function) the home page image elements are slow to load and tied in with a 'statse.webtrendslive' script which is being blocked by the spyware / tracking filter.

It loads rather fast for me, maybe depends on your geo location.

Try adding this rule to your user filter:
Code:
@@||statse.webtrendslive^$domain=firstgreatwestern.co.uk
Maybe it'll help?
