Stopping videos and animations

Lots of websites are increasingly using distracting and annoying videos and animations that auto-play when you load the page. I know that Safari in particular doesn't provide a way to stop a lot of these videos from playing. Is there some kind of filter I could create with AdGuard to prevent auto-playing anything?

Personally I am using Safari and this option is provided within the browser settings.

Did you check the settings of the one you are using?

That was the first obvious thing I did a long time ago, but it doesn't stop things like animated GIFs, it seems, or apparently some other kind of animations that Safari won't stop. I don't know what the sites are doing, but they have a way around it.

Videos Safari will stop them. GIF, I don't know because I not visiting such website.

Do you have an example? Is it on macOS or iOS?

This is Safari for Mac and iOS both, although I originally wrote about the Mac. foxnews.com is an offender I can think of easily. They'll have animations on their front page a couple of times a week (although they may not at this moment). accuweather.com is terrible about it, just about every page there has video of some sort. I've been to some other sites I can't think of at the moment that have videos that will play automatically. I can add those URLs to this thread as I come across them.

Just tested on macOS and iOS.

macOS: no video for Fox or Accuweather.

Make sure the setting is on "Never Autoplay" - see below

iOS: no video for Fox.
However there is one for Accuweather.
I agree, it really pissed me off too. I couldn't get rid of it even by applying a personal rule. I guess you might want to check another weather site :) Or @Alex302 can help you with this.

Thanks for taking time to check those out. Fox won't always have a video on their page, and they don't at the moment. I'm not sure how I would show someone except to post it to this thread when it happens. As for Accuweather, I stopped going to the site months ago because it was so full of videos everywhere. It looks like they've made some changes to the site in the meantime and removed the videos in a lot of places.

OK. You can video record the page then we can see what's happening. Then upload the file to a temporary uploading site and post it here.

Hello Aaron. Sorry I missed your post, I was away for the week-end.

I checked FoxNews again, and obviously it is different today. On my side no video at all.

How it looks on my side

Yes I show it, but I cannot figure out why you get something and not me.

Did you check with the support?

Nope. Neither on macOS or iOS. All clean.

You might want to check the Filters I am using and try them on your side.

I added Peter Lowe, Easy Privacy, Fanboy Enhanced Tracking, Fanboy Anti-Facebook, and Fanboy Social Blocking. Let's see if that helps.
