Hello all,

Is updating to v1.3.0 adguard pro worth it?

It’s losing the system wide ad blocking, but this feature really was 1 of the main reasons why i brought the app after testing the free version..

Device: iPhone 7 Plus
Os: iOS 11 Developer beta 4

Well hope to get a message asap

Thanks!!

It still blocks some ads in app but not all. The Apple News app has ads again in the new 1.3.0 but the old versions everything was blocked

I will hold off from upgrading. I basically bought this app for system wide ad blocking and am sad to see this feature dropped..

Hmm that’s too bad, seems now more ads are allowed because of apple it’s new rules.. I’ll stay on the lower version and upgrade in the future if it’s really needed!

Thanks for the response guys!!

I'm getting ads in apps as well. Not sure what settings we have to use but I did flip the switch in the pro setting.

To everyone in this thread: you still can use Adguard to block ads in apps. The easiest way is to set up Adguard DNS using the DNS settings inside the app. The ad blocking quality will be identical to the system-wide filtering.

There is a more complex way - to paste the Simplified domain filter to the DNS blacklist.

I decided to switch from the previous version to the new one on IOS 10 iPad mini. It's the same as before, just make sure you turned on your previously settings on in the "filters" section. And of course setup the DNS information manually as others have mentioned. Once I setup my filters again, everything was back to blocking in all my apps. My suggestion is, if you have multiple devices to do one at a time so you can read the settings off the previous version. Or.. screenshot each setting in the filter section that you like to use. I have this app on 5 different devices, I updated iPad mini 4 on IOS 10 (latest version) and iPhone SE IOS 11beta 4 developer (haven't done the other 3 yet, writing this at work and don't have all my devices with me). I'm seeing the same results as before, no ads are getting through in apps that normally would have them. Keep up the great work fellas! Even though Apple are being sticklers about this situation, you guys have built a very strong application.

The complex way is very complex since there is no way to select all from the iphone to copy&paste into the DNS blacklist.
I am having difficulty selecting Default settings after switching from other DNS servers. Is this a bug?

But this Adguard DNS only works with wifi, how do you block the apps on 4G/3G ( my 4g is 2x faster than my wifi )

This Does work on cellular too, I can confirm ads are blocked on cellular after updating the app.
Good Job team!

I just came here to ask this same question.

Does it work on split and full tunnel also? Basically just use Adguard Default in DNS settings and ads are blocked system wide?

I haven't tested in split tunnel but there is no reason it shouldn't work, yeah just pick Adguard dns and ads are blocked system wide. Haven't noticed any unnecessary ads after update.

Everything seems to be working with ads being blocked in apps the issue I'm having is when data is being handed off from wifi to cellular data. When going from wifi to cellular data the wifi icon stays greyed out and never switches. If I put it in airplane mode the airplane icon is there and so is the VPN icon. The only way to get things going again is turn off Adguard and it works itself out in a bit.

Sorry, das ich deutsch schreibe! Ich kann leider kein Englisch. :(

I translated this and it sounds like the issue that I'm having.

If I turn off Adguard, then switch from wifi to cellular, then turn Adguard on again then go into settings on my phone and turn on VPN, everything works. I have to do the same thing in reverse to go back to wifi.

Have same issue, wifi to cellular takes some time, or have to do manually by switching VPN on/off. however cellular to wifi works fine for me.

One way I'm making it work is keeping the DNS Requests Log on and sifting through the URLs to add them to the blacklist. By now, I can identify a significant number of Ad Servers looking at the URLs. It has been almost as good as before.

But for some reason, the connection seems really slow with Adguard DNS server, especially App updates sometimes take forever to download for 50% of the time. In the past, I've had the same issue with Adguard DNS servers, and so I just used the System Default.

I have the same issue, connection using the Adguard DNS it’s REALLY slow to the point that I need to go to the App and turn off the PRO feature.

It makes the App Store be blank and never load any content or if it does can’t find an app or doesn’t update anything, Apple Maps also is blank, same for Apple News and in general EVERYTHING is loading very slow (in Safari, YouTube app, etc)

I was excited about DNS working pretty much but now the loading time has increased ridiculously to the point that is less of a hustle to keep it off, but that totally defies the purpose of having paid for the Pro version… it’s just a pity.

Edit: I disabled some filters since the DNS filter already is doing many of the same thing for blocking ads and privacy. Delete the Adguard DNS server option, delete and installed the app again, added the Adguard DNS server. It’s working fine so far. Not sure if did something there or just was off peak hours. Will keep resting during the day.
