Whitelist wildcards

I use invert whitelist and am trying to block ads on all wikia.com subdomains, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this. What I've tried so far:

wikia.com - only blocks ads on wikia.com, not on any subdomain
*.wikia.com - is saved as %2A.wikia.com and has no effect
@@||wikia.com (as suggested in this thread) - saves as %7C%7Cwikia.com and has no effect

If it makes a difference, I am using Vivaldi 1.10.867.48. I don't believe this is relevant, however, as I have the same problem in Chrome.

Does anyone have any suggestions of wildcards which will work, or of a better way to (white)list the domain?

Try adding @@||wikia.com to the user filter, and not the whitelist.

I personally never use the whitelist itself - to whitelist sites I add them (via @@|| rules) to the user filter instead.

I could do that, but it's not a great solution because the user filter is only applied to filtered sites - i.e. only those sites on my inverted whitelist. Since I don't have *.wikia.com on my inverted whitelist the user filter is not applied to that domain. So to make this work I would have to transfer all of my current whitelist to the user filter, turn off invert whitelist, and so lose the ability to block ads on specific sites via the toolbar icon.
